The Cambridge Overseas Research Project (ORP) allows Part IIB (fourth year) Manufacturing Engineering students to spend two weeks abroad researching a topical subject and then produce an associated research report.
The trip is entirely run and organised by the students themselves. In July 2017, 26 students will hopefully be travelling to Japan in order to research the issues surrounding the future of manufacturing and the growth of digitisation in manufacturing in Japan, focusing on the Robot Revolution Initiative.
We aim to gain a deeper understanding of some of the global trends affecting business and industry, and how Japanese companies are adapting to the changing nature of manufacturing that the digital age has brought. This is an opportunity both to conduct useful academic research and for students to gain invaluable learning and life experience.
