On Saturday 10th December, the CUWBC Alumni are once again hosting our Sparring event, where the three current CUWBC squad VIIIs (blue, blondie and lightweight) will take on three Alumni VIIIs in a short race along the Embankment in Putney.

The event is being run from Imperial College Boathouse, and tea and cake will be available in the Bill Mason Room from 2pm onwards. The toss for sides between the captains of each boat will take place in front of the boat house at 2pm, and the first race at 2.30pm.

Join Cambridge Olympians, the Vice-Chancellor and a number of special guests for an elegant black tie dinner, to be held in the magnificent Painted Hall, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London.

The occasion will celebrate Cambridge sporting achievement and mark the forthcoming London Olympics.

The Painted Hall, probably the finest dining hall in the Western world, was built to Wren’s design between 1696 and 1704, and is decorated with stunning paintings by Sir James Thornhill, who also decorated the inside of the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral. He started work in 1708 and did not finish until nineteen years later in 1727.

The Old Royal Naval College is one of London’s most famous riverside landmarks. It was built on the site of a Tudor palace and is the birth place of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. A third of all Olympic Sports will take part in Greenwich and Greenwich Park will host the Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon events.

Brief Description: The University of Cambridge network of more than 400 volunteer-led Groups is a vital network of ambassadors, advocates and supporters. The Leadership Conference is specifically designed for alumni involved in running this global network.

The conference is free of charge to recognised Alumni Group leaders but accommodation and travel are the responsibility of those attending.

The event runs from 9am to 5:30pm. The day will include a guest speaker, breakout sessions and lunch. If you wish to attend the day the RSVP deadline is Monday 21 May.

We are able to welcome up to two people from each Alumni Group. If you are intending to go to the Leadership Conference in Hong Kong on 15th April we would be delighted to see you at Madingley Hall as well, we are more than happy for Group Leaders to attend both Conferences. If you are not able to attend either of the Conferences personally, please do consider asking another member(s) of your Group to come along to be a representative of your Group.

This popular annual event is becoming a firm favourite in the festive calendar. Network in style at this drinks and canapés reception held in the exclusive surroundings of Sir Paul Judge’s 18th floor apartment. Overlooking the stunning skyline of the City, Sir Paul’s fabulous apartment holds around 200 people and is a fantastic opportunity to connect with London-based alumni and groups. The evening is kindly hosted by the Alumni Advisory Board (of which Sir Paul is the Chair).

This December Sir Paul Judge (Trinity 1968) will once again kindly open up his stunning riverside apartment to alumni and guests.

He will be joined by members of the University of Cambridge Alumni Advisory Board for an evening of informal networking, drinks and canapés. This event will take place in Sir Paul’s spectacular riverside apartment, overlooking the Thames, with stunning views of the London skyline.

This is a fabulous opportunity for alumni to meet members of the Board and network in style. With the Cambridge alumni community representative of the full spectrum of business sectors, job functions and organisations, we hope that you can join Sir Paul and other members of the Alumni Board as they host this special occasion in London.

As your first term comes to an end, the Cambridge Alumni Relations Office (CARO) would like to invite you to a drinks event at The Vaults on Wednesday 23 November, 6pm-8.30pm. Come along and catch-up with your fellow students who, like yourself, attended a Freshers’ Party. We have also invited along the volunteers who organised the parties, we hope some of them are able to join us.

Alumni living in or visiting Asia are invited to attend the first Cambridge Global Alumni Conference, which will be held in Hong Kong in April 2012.

On Saturday 14 April, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, the Master of St. Catharine’s Professor Dame Jean Thomas, and an array of other distinguished academics will come together to provide alumni with a thought provoking day of discussion, lectures and networking at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The event runs from 9am until 4pm - further details and exact timings will be confirmed soon.

Tickets for the lecture day cost £75 per person which includes refreshments and lunch.

Do you want to find out what it takes to be involved in organising the biggest sporting event in the world? Come and hear from alumni working for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) over dinner at Emmanuel College, on Thursday 1 March.

Starting off with a free drinks reception at 6.30pm in the Old Library, you will then sit down to a 3 course dinner intertwined with four fantastic speakers:

The Department of Architecture is celebrating its centenary during 2012 and to mark the occasion there will be an Alumni Lunch in Queens’ College on Saturday 7th July at 1:00pm, with the option to come to tea and strawberries in Scroope Terrace between 3:45pm and 4:45pm. The price of the lunch is £30 per person.

There will be a small exhibition of student work in the Department and photographs from the exhibition ‘Cambridge in Concrete’ will also be on display.

Alumni Groups have been holding Freshers’ Parties around the world for local upcoming students to meet one another and former students from their home region for many years now. Some Groups run very small parties with varying success and are in need of advice, others run very large successful parties and could provide invaluable advice to other Groups.

This workshop is designed to exchange ideas and advice (showcasing best practice) on holding a Freshers' Party.

Join the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Professor Martin Daunton, Master of Trinity Hall, and Dr Simon Taylor, University Lecturer in Finance, for an afternoon of stimulating talks on Finance and Health. The afternoon will culminate in a panel discussion which will be followed by a drinks reception.

Alumni, students and their guests are invited to an evening of wine, cheese, and the world of spies, at Heffers Bookshop on Thursday 9 May.

Alumna Jennie Rooney (St John’s 1998) will be doing a reading from her latest book, Red Joan - 'A gripping, emotional and expertly plotted spy novel of the Cold War, inspired by a real story. Beautifully written and clever' KATE MOSSE

Tickets cost £6 per person. Alumni will also have the opportunity to use their CAMCards in store to get 15% off purchases on the night.
