PAGES MPT Workshop, 08-10 September 2026

Description

Middle Pleistocene Transition (MPT) Workshop

The University of Cambridge, in collaboration with PAGES (Past Global Changes), is organising an international scientific workshop on the Middle Pleistocene Transition (MPT).

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together an international group of researchers  to review recent advances in understanding the MPT and identify priorities for future research.

The scientific programme and educational content will be delivered by invited academic researchers and workshop participants through presentations, structured discussions and working sessions. Topics will include the timing and character of the MPT; changes in the frequency and amplitude of glacial–interglacial cycles; the roles of orbital forcing, ice sheets, ocean circulation and the carbon cycle; improvements in chronology and palaeoclimate records; climate modelling; and the mechanisms proposed to explain the transition from predominantly 41,000-year to longer and more intense glacial cycles.

The programme will consist of scientific presentations, discussion sessions and collaborative working sessions designed to synthesise current knowledge, identify outstanding scientific questions, and develop priorities for future research and international collaboration.

During the booking process, you’ll be asked to select your preferred conference dinner option: vegetarian, vegan, or meat. View the full menu on the More Info tab.
