Description

Hands-on Workshop. Yarn Spinning with Spindles: Arhuaco and Kogi Indigenous traditions from Colombia and European Historical Methods

Join us for a unique, hands-on spinning workshop led by master spinners from Colombia and Europe. Over two days, you’ll learn to hand spin cotton, wool, flax, and fique with different spindles, exploring techniques rooted in both Indigenous traditions from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and European historical practice.

We’re delighted to welcome two Indigenous Colombian spinners alongside three professional European hand spinners – covering expertise in cotton, fique, wool and flax.

Fee: £35 for two days, including materials and tools to use, plus coffee breaks and lunches.

Teaching team
•    Judith Marina Torres Solis (Colombia, Arhuaco)
•    Carmen Nuvita Coronado (Colombia, Kogi)
•    Katrin Kania (Germany)
•    Johanne Høgh (Denmark)

The programme includes eight hours of practical instruction, short talks on preparing fibres before spinning, and a special demonstration of fique splicing as practised in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
