IUTAM Symposium on new avenues in mechanics of solids, 19 - 22 April 2026Info Location Contact Event Information![]()
DescriptionIUTAM Symposium on new avenues in mechanics of solids: exploring opportunities at multi-physics cross-roads IUTAM the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and it is the only international body in this field. Mechanics has always embraced multidisciplinary, and this is even more so today with applications in solid mechanics ranging from applying mechanics in new fields such as mechanobiology, chemo-mechanics of energy storage materials, active matter and robotics to developing new mechanics in the age of data science. While each of these fields on its own is multidisciplinary, via this symposium, we wish to explore synergies between these emerging fields in mechanics. The aim is to chart out new avenues for (solid) mechanics for the coming decades. Our focus will be on three themes each spanning approximately 1 day of a 3-day symposium. The three themes are: For more information, please contact Hilde Hambro (hh463@cam.ac.uk) The detailed programme can be found https://www.cam-2026-iutam.com/ UoC Staff / Student Registration: Internal recharge is an option for University of Cambridge staff and students whose department/grant is paying for the registration fee.
