DescriptionIn the year 865, the viking ‘great army’ arrived in East Anglia. Over the subsequent decade, it upended the political geography of Britain and brought a new and important element to the economic landscape. This one-day symposium brings together leading archaeologists and historians to discuss the great army’s impact, in light of recent discoveries, including the rich collection of relevant material from Torksey (Lincolnshire), held at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. This event is generously supported by the Isaac Newton Trust and the British Numismatic Society.
